Loughborough High School Old Girl Hetty Boardman-Weston (2000-07) is touring the United States with the University of Cambridge Choir of Christ's College. The choir are celebrating it's 800th Anniversary this year and is also celebrating the bicentenary of its alumnus Charles Darwin, and the 500th anniversary of the death of its foundress Lady Margaret Beaufort.
The tour starts with two concerts in the Boston area. After visiting several more venues in New England, the choir will reach NYC and sing Eucharist at the Cathedral of St John the Divine on the 12th July. Following concerts in Philadelphia and Wilmington DE, the tour will end in the Washington D.C. area, where the choir will sing Evensong at the National Cathedral.
Christ's College Choir is widely recognized as one of the best mixed choirs in Cambridge. As well as singing Evensong twice a week in the College, it performs frequently in Cambridge and London, broadcasts regularly on BBC Radio, and undertakes an international tour every year. In recent years the choir has toured Australia, Canada (singing at St James's Cathedral, Toronto), and the West Coast of the USA (singing at Grace Cathedral, San Francisco). Compact disc releases include Of a Rose: Carol settings by Britten and Leighton (2007); Stanford Magnificat for Double Chorus, Parry Songs of Farewell (2004); Howells Requiem, Britten Rejoice in the Lamb (2002). In December 2008 Sir Philip Ledger conducted the choir in a CD recording of his music.
The tour repertoire spans the range of English and European choral traditions from the Renaissance to the 20th century and includes Scarlatti Stabat Mater, motets by J.S. Bach, Parry Songs of Farewell, and Britten Rejoice in the Lamb and Hymn to St Cecilia.
