Specialising in the craft of the short story, Joanna is widely published in all the major national women's magazines and her writing master classes have become extremely popular throughout the UK.   After leaving Loughborough High School Joanna Barnden gained an MA in English Literature from Cambridge University and is a lecturer in Creative Writing for the Open University.

Joanna, 36, has been writing full time for five years and over 100 of her stories and serials have been published in the national women's magazines such as Bella, Women's' Weekly, My Weekly and People.   Joanna won a BBC short story competition in 2003 as well as a ‘highly commended' in the East Midlands Playwriting competition, and her one act play was performed in Chesterfield's Pomegranate Theatre.

Joanna's workshop at LHS is recommended for ages 16 and over, participants don't have to be experts.   The day will spark off creative ideas and Joanna will take writers through the technical stages of the short story towards a rounded, satisfying conclusion, encouraging each individual to develop their own particular style and skill.     An imaginative and lively day is guaranteed.

All budding writers are welcome and the day is open to parents, staff/former staff, friends, former pupils and local residents.  Whatever you are into  - horror, romance or anything in between. All that's important is a love of words, a pen and paper, and a bit of bravery!

Organised by the Loughborough High School Parents' Association, the Writing Workshop runs from 10am - 4pm at the High School and the cost per person is £20  - bring your own packed lunch.
